Replacing a part unnecessarily happens more often than thought by many car owners. Why does this happen?

  1. The car owner brings in his or her vehicle chasing a deal on oil changes or similar services. The mechanic then advises the customer to have such and such part replaced so as to make up for the loss on the cheap service the customer originally came in for.
  1. There is a problem with the car and instead of doing a thorough diagnostic using testing and analysis, the mechanic offers to replace a part to see if that fixes the problem.

A mechanic who cares about his or her customers won’t recommend replacing parts without good reason.
